Setting Your Goals Too High?

How many times have you heard someone say "oh he or she should not set such high goals because they will only set themselves up for disappointment."  I cringe when I hear those statements because it is such a spirit killer.  A person should always be encouraged to seek higher goals.  You never know they may be the next
Thomas Edison or Jonas Salk. And if they don't achieve their goal at least they tried and learned what they have to do the next time.

Take the case of J.R. Simplot.  He died recently but in his lifetime he rose from being a poor farm hand to becoming the largest potato processor in the world.  If you have ever had a french fry at McDonalds you have sampled Mr. Simplot's product.  He also became the largest land owner in the state of Idaho.

During an interview where he was discussing his career in the potato industry he was asked among other things what was the biggest mistake he ever made.  Now keep in mind he was the largest potato processor in the world and he started from nothing.  He stated that the biggest mistake he ever made in his life was that he failed to set his goals high enough.

Can you imagine that!  A man who rose to become the largest potato processor in the world considered that his biggest mistake was that he did not set his goals high enough.  Can't you just hear the naysayers laughing at the young J.R. proclaiming that he was going to ge the biggest potato processor.  Now see who had the last laugh.

Setting a goal of excellence is the first of the five principles of success.  A person should not be discouraged when they set goals for themselves even if it sounds unattainable,  you never know they might be the next Bill Gates.

Goals are attainable.  See how at http://www.asamanthinketh.info
